>> originally said that 50 "Archive boxes" were
created, and that 41 were inserted into cases, as 9 were held back
for various promos/incentives.
>> "Archive boxes" are boxes that contain one sketch
card of every artist, and come in two varieties: "Marked" with a
sticker on the outside of the box, and "unmarked" that are a
surprise when you open the box.
>> Artists who are exclusive to Archive Boxes:
-- Guy Dorian -- 60 cards
-- Ian Dorian -- 64 cards
-- Jessica Hickman -- 50 cards
-- Bryan Hitchen -- 89 cards
-- Mike Lilly -- 50 cards
>> Robert Kohlbus (who works for Rittenhouse): "It's actually
a bit of fun for me to figure out who the artist is just by their
style. I've held in my hand every sketch for this set at least four
times, so I'm very familiar with all of the cards."
>> Andy Price had at least 15 cards that were "sent
back for editing."
DC had a lot of input over what would not work, or be
acceptable.
>> Absolutely nothing from movies, television or
animation was allowed, as none of them are strictly DC property. No
Smoking or drinking allowed, no excessive blood or gore. No dates on
cards, no overt or strong sexual or adult themes, no secret
identities unless it is expressed strongly as to who they are.
>> The artists were given a list of characters they
could draw. Group cards could include other characters, but one of
the listed characters had to be present. Any version of the
character could be used (i.e. any Batgirl).
I think the characters matched up to the 50 characters in the base
set but am not sure.
>> Some artists were initially given a slightly
different list of acceptable characters.
>> Examples of characters who were not on the
approved list, but still got drawn & packed-out: The Scarecrow (drawn
by: Hillsman, Price, & McHaley), Solomon
Grundy (drawn by: Price, & Spears).
